Here is Mrs. Higgins as a Second Grader!
Hi! I am privileged to serve as your child's classroom teacher this year!. I am a Bowling Green native - having attended South Main Elementary and graduating from BGHS. My teaching degree is from Baldwin-Wallace College, and I achieved my Master's Degree at BGSU, with a focus on reading. This is my 19th year in the Bowling Green Schools -- I served as the Ridge Title I Reading Specialist for nine years before moving to the Second Grade Classroom. I am pleased to now be a part of the Crim School Family. I have also taught in the Washington Local School System in Toledo. Prior to teaching full-time, I was a Preschool Teacher, served as a Children's Librarian in Pemberville, and as Assistant to the Director of the Arts Unilimited Program at BGSU. Currently I am also employed as a part-time, adjunct instructor at BGSU.
I live in Bowling Green with my husband, beautiful daughters, and two dogs. As a family we enjoy weekend getaways, Notre Dame Football, and spending time together around town. Perhaps you'll run into us at the soccer fields or The Beat Dance Studio.
In 2008, I was honored to be named a Milken Educator. The Milken Program honors mid-career teachers around the country for excellence in the classroom. What an incredible and humbling experience! More information about the Milken Program and my involvement can be found at: http://www.mff.org/mea/mea.taf?page=recipient&meaID=22552.
I currently serve as an Ambassador for the GoNoodle program. GoNoodle helps us actively engage our bodies AND minds! We use many brain breaks and learning activities from the GoNoodle website in our classroom.
I am involved with many professional development opportunities to enhance our schools and your child's education. I serve on several Ohio Department of Education committees, am a part-time instructor for BGSU's College of Education, and have taught for the eReadsOhio professional development program at UAkron. I have presented at the Mazza Museum Summer Institutes at UFindlay. I am a member of the Teacher Advisory Board for Scholastic, and represented Ohio teachers at the National Education Association Convention in Washington DC in 2012. As an active member of our local, state, and national teacher's association, I advocate for high quality public schools for ALL children!
